Selling Guidance

Many people look to sell their jewelry for a variety of reasons. It might be something that no longer fits a contemporary lifestyle, an heirloom that would be better off converted into cash, or something acquired in the past that no longer has an emotional attachment. Regardless of the nature of the acquisition, we all want to receive the most we can. However, the reality is that often your treasure is just your treasure, and no one else’s.

We provide direction as to the best method of maximizing the value of your items, including introductions to trusted sources including consignment dealers, diamond wholesalers, and reputable auction houses.

*We do not sell, purchase, or broker jewelry.

As a general rule, here a few guidelines:

1.

Be realistic in your expectations. Look to sell an item close to its wholesale value.

2.

We advise clients to look within their immediate social network and by that we mean not your online social presence, but relatives, friends, neighbors, and work colleagues. Even if you think they may not be able to afford or be interested in an item, they may know someone who is in the market.

3.

To maximize what you will receive, you need to find somebody who likes that particular item. Sometimes, potential buyers may not like a mounting style and dismiss the opportunity to buy something at very fair price. People forget that a gemstone is nature’s art, and the mounting the frame. Just like you would reframe an older piece of art to make it look more contemporary, the center gemstone has the most value. If warranted, we may advise that the main gemstone be removed from the setting and submitted to the Gemological Institute of America for a quality analysis report. This will aid you in selling your item.

4.

Never go to one of those places that advertise “ highest prices paid for gold & diamonds”. They never do, which is how they stay in business.

5.

Unlike precious metals, jewelry is not liquid. Most gold items are literally worth their weight in gold, and nothing more. However, with the current price of gold at all-time highs, you will receive more than you think.
